What Does Therapy Look Like?

Sometimes it is hard to know what to expect from therapy and what the process can look like. Below are some examples of how the trajectory of therapy can go. Some people engage in therapy for a few months and others for years. There is no right or wrong way to move through therapy.

Appointment Types

Discovery Call

This is a 15-minute, FREE, phone call to see if you and your therapist are a good fit for what you are looking to focus on in therapy. This will give you a chance to ask any questions directly. Your therapist can inform you of what insurances they take, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check with your insurance carrier on what your copay and deductible are.

Individual Therapy Intake Session

This is a 60-minute session that is required for the therapist to complete to gather your history in order to provide ethical and effective care moving forward. The intake session helps your therapist get a "snapshot" of many areas of your life and where you want to focus first. This session focuses on getting a little bit of information on a lot of topics, rather than heavy information on one topic like you may see in a future session.

Individual Therapy Follow Up

This is a 50-minute recurring session with your therapist. Session topics will be based on your need and how that is woven into your overall goals/treatment plan. When first beginning therapy, it is typical to start at weekly appointments and then move to biweekly, then monthly as you feel positive changes are happening.
